CENTS AND SENSIBILITY

These are trying times. When you wake up already tired for no particular reason. Flavours have lost their colour. Colours have lost their flavour. Perhaps the only zest you ingest is that from the lemon you drink in the morning.

Notice your breathing. How does it feel? Does the exhale linger long and slow possessing calm and ease in to your day, or does it leave heavy like shifting a weight every time your lungs collapse?

I am brought back to remember the “Six Foundation Health Principles” (for a healthy human) by Paul Chek of the CHEK Institute…

1.      Thoughts

2.      Breathing

3.      Water

4.      Food

5.      Movement

6.      Sleep

… and there it is, staring directly at me from pole position.

Lately, I have been burdening myself with ‘matters of the mundane’. You know the type – budgets, money, investments i.e. the future, buying, selling, health insurance, quotes – being torn from past pillar to future post. In addition to that, telling myself to “be more creative!”, and “spend your other moments inspired!” … but one has learned that one cannot be inspired unless they surround themselves with inspiration.

In these moments, I feel the urge to run. To travel to mountains or faraway lands as I think this is where inspiration may lay, or that I may sit in its company and be injected with that amazing fire for life one feels when they are truly connected.

However, as I sit staring at one of the most beautiful oceans from my balcony in one of the most beautiful places in the world I have come to realise that if your head is not in the game, if it is not clear, then it does not matter where you sit – you will reside in the numbers of money and time. They say, ‘beauty is found in the eye of the beholder’, well, inspiration is found in the clarity of the burdened.

To be inspired is to truly live, so why do we shackle ourselves with such matters of the mundane, objects and desires that carry the weight of world’s bad weather?

The common answer is usually ‘because we have to get them done’.

Do we? Really?

Who says?

There is an old John Mayer song that reigned over part of my life named, Who Says? (in fact, I found his entire back catalogue to be in timely harmony with my cathartic desires of that time). Basically, the song asks the question – who says I’m not allowed to do what I feel like doing? And counter argues – why do I have to do all the shit people complain about?

Well, I’m here to tell you - you don’t… if you don’t involve yourself with them.

If you don’t want the money stress, don’t allow money to take a position on your ‘Six Foundations of a Happy Human’ grid. Earn enough to keep you healthy and assign the rest to travel in search of inspiration.

We cannot control time, so, slow down your breathing and release the handbrake on matters that have you gridlocked with vehicles of dollars and cents.
